II KRAKÓW ARCHI-GAME

Event accompanying the International Architecture Biennale Kraków 2021

The Krakow Archi-Game, taking place as part of the Biennale 2021, is the second edition of an event aimed at popularising lesser-known Kraków architecture. The City Game is a game in which teams compete against each other during walks combining elements of a treasure hunt, computer games and happenings. This year’s edition will focus on Nowa Huta. Competitors will be given a number of tasks concerning the history and architecture of this amazing district of Krakow. Apart from its educational function, the Archi-Game is an opportunity to integrate the community of young architects and have fun.

The City Game will take place in Nowa Huta on  October 23, 2021 (Saturday).

Game commissioner: Maja Czarnecka
Coordination: Marcin Włodarczyk

ARCHITEKCI MAŁOPOLSKI 2021 - UNREALISED PROJECTS

Exhibition organised by the MPOIA as an accompanying event to the International Architecture Biennale Kraków 2021

The main theme of the exhibition will be UNREALISED projects.

Every architect has… not realised something. And one keeps evidence of it in his imagination, on the shelf of his studio, in computer files. Often these are very personal projects, often they are the result of enormous emotions that accompanied them. They accompanied their creation, they accompanied the information that they were “back in the drawer”. Now is time to bring them to light. After all, this is our heritage. All the more valuable because it has been hidden so far. The planned exhibition is dedicated to such hidden gems.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a presentation of the winners of the “Salon of Architecture”, i.e. works of our colleagues, awarded by a verdict issued by all architects of Małopolska – members of the MPOIA RP.

The opening of the exhibition will take place on October 26 – 27, 2021,  inside the ICE Krakow Congress Centre.

WEAKENED FORMS - PHOTOGRAPHIC ESSAY

Event accompanying the International Architecture Biennale Kraków 2021

The photographic essay entitled Weakened Forms was designed as part of the book project Smart object. The involuntary perversions of things, Czarne Publishers, 2017. The authors of the photographic essay and editors of the book – Agata Pankiewicz and Marcin Przybyłko – browse in the circle of things. These are seemingly insignificant objects that have been created out of practical need and in many ways resemble prototypes. They are created for immediate use, and their shape can be so clumsy and flawed that the lack of reliable construction and the lack of harmony between function and form is puzzling (and disturbing). Temporary by assumption, created by nature as anti-projects, they are nevertheless permanently present in our everyday life. The authors are interested in the process of their creation, their nature, as well as the deeper background of the relationship between man and things.

In the category of recycling they can be called OTHER-USE.

“(…) This is something about the art of patching. About the craft of piecing together. About sewing together from what is at hand. About resourcefulness, i.e. agreeing to the rule and trying to make an exception for oneself.

It could probably be seen as a story about Poland, about modernisation, peripherality and the like. Fortunately, it is simply a book about people and strange objects”.

Marcin Wicha

The exhibition will be presented at the Academy of Fine Arts’ Promotional Gallery (13 Matejki Square) from October  12 to 28 2021.
